Oct. 2, 2022
If we separate flooring sales by product type, floors that imitate wood have been the most soldfor years. Although fashions are cyclical and in recent years new trends have appeared, such as polished porcelain or hydraulic design floors, wooden floors are still the ones most sought after by consumers.
Let's see in this article what we understand by parquet and the main differences between porcelain that imitates wood and laminate flooring.
Although the word parquet has become generalized and is used for all floors that imitate wood, regardless of the manufacturing material and the size of the tile, parquet is a natural wood floor presented in planks.
Due to the demand for floors that imitate wood and the peculiarities and sometimes the drawbacks that natural wood has, other materials such as porcelain floors or laminate floors began to appear.
Advantages of ceramic parquet
Although, as explained above, the word parquet would not be entirely correct for the material we are referring to, we will often use it in this post to compare the two materials: ceramic and laminate
Ceramic or porcelain parquet has some advantages over other wooden floors:
Porcelain floors It has a much higher resistance to laminate, vinyl and wooden floors. The great resistance of ceramics allows us to use it in all types of environments and establishments without fearing its deterioration.
Porcelain stoneware has water absorption equal to or less than 0.5%. This fact has several advantages. On the one hand, a porcelain floor that imitates wood will protect us in all cases from humidity and water leaks. We could even place it inside the pool with complete peace of mind. Another very important thing is that we can clean it with the amount of water we need, and above all with any cleaning product.
The Porcelain floors, in addition to the resistance that we mentioned in point one and that guarantees us the use in any home or space, whatever the weather conditions, has another advantage, and that is that it admits non-slip treatment. Today most collections have this possibility, which also allows us to place the wood-effect floor around the pool, on ramps or outside stairs.
Advantages of synthetic parquet
This concept has many names and each region or each person uses one depending on how they learned it. Laminate flooring, synthetic parquet or floating flooring, among others.
It is a material widely used for housing floors, both in new construction and in the renovation of old homes. And it is that a type of floor currently in fashion for the many benefits of use that it has.
The main advantage is its warmth and comfort , far superior to that of any other type of material. They are floors that are very pleasant to the touch and with a stable temperature, they do not get too cold in low temperatures and they invite us to walk barefoot on them even in winter.
Installation is relatively simple, at least more than in materials such as porcelain, and much less cumbersome. With a tutorial and a little skill you will be able to know how to install the laminated flooring.
If you choose to hire the installation With a professional instead of installing it yourself, you will still save more or less half the money of what a porcelain floor would cost. Without taking into account that a laminate floor can be placed on top of your current floor, which will avoid discomfort and dirt during the renovation.
Price difference between a porcelain floor and a laminate
Just as in labor we said that there is a big price difference between one and the other, in the material there are no notable differences.
Both in a type of material and in another you can see prices from €10 or €15 to more than €40 or €50. This will depend more on the quality and characteristics of the product than on the type of material.
In both cases, if you buy a floor for around €15, it is very likely that you're already getting a high-quality product.
