Difference between thermostatic tap and mixer

Sept. 21, 2020

When you are going to buy a bathroom tap, one of the aspects that you should be clear about is the difference between a thermostatic tap and a mixer tap .

Both options can be very valid, but it is important that you know the pros and cons of each one and if they are recommended for the shower, the sink or the kitchen.

What is the difference between a mixer tap and a thermostatic tap?

The first thing you should be clear about is that a mixer tap has only one handle. That is, you can control the temperature and the water flow with the same handle.

This is very convenient, since you do not have to mix hot and cold water, as in traditional taps, but you can regulate it according to your convenience. It is also the most common in the most modern taps.

When you move the valve up or down, you are controlling the water pressure. When you move it to the side, you are regulating the temperature of the water (hot or cold).

When we see a thermostatic tap, on the other hand, we are talking about a tap in which the temperature and the water flow are regulated with different handles. In fact, instead of an elongated handle it can be a cube, with which we can set the temperature we want and another with which we can set the flow rate.

This last option is very comfortable and recommended for the shower, since you can avoid abrasions and contribute to saving water, since you will not spend much time trying to find the most comfortable temperature or flow. Also keep in mind that there is usually a maximum temperature limit, so you do not run the risk of burning yourself.

What is better, a thermostatic or mixer tap?

Thermostatic taps can be the most recommended for the shower, since it is when we spend the most time underwater and where it is most important that we can save water and control the temperature well.

On the other hand, the mixer tap offers us greater speed and ease of use, since we only have to open the tap with a single handle.

On the other hand, thermostatic taps are usually more expensive, so many people prefer to install them only in the shower.

In Azulejos Solá you can find both thermostatic shower sets and mixer taps. Discover different models so that you can buy the tap that best suits you to meet your needs.
