valencian tile

The Valencian tile is not just a type of ceramic, it is also part of our history. Valencian tiles are one of the tile styles that we met in Spain and that have Arabic origin. Valencian tiles are ceramics with an old design that we can still find in tile shops like ours.

We could put the Valencian tile into the category of rustic tiles, but we believe that they have so much personality that they deserve to have their own place in our online store.

Spain is one of the countries with the longest history in ceramic production, led by the Valencian Community. Although the province of Castellón is where most of the ceramic activity is concentrated, ceramics have been made in Valencia for centuries, long before the gas appeared to change the way of making tiles, from an artisanal way to a mechanical one.

Valencian tiles are small-format tiles in square or border-type format. Although most of these models are already manufactured in industrial kilns, their appearance is like the original tile, apparently hand-painted.

These tiles usually have a glossy texture and their surface is dominated by two colors, blue and yellow. Main colors in the flag of Valencia.

Characteristics of Valencian tiles

The Valencian-style ceramics is a tile with color but that normally allows the white of the surface to have its leading role. These tiles can be perfectly placed in rustic bathrooms and kitchens, however there are many who seek to buy Valencian tiles for interior patios of old houses or as a decorative piece on any wall of the house.

Although there are those who confuse them, Valencian tiles have some differences with Sevillian tiles:

Colour: Although blue is also an important color in the Andalusian tile, other colors such as green or brown are mixed in it. The yellow color of Valencian tiles is conspicuous by its absence in Andalusian-style tiles.

Patterns: Valencian tiles usually have flowery patterns in the corners or center of the tiles. You can even find models with drawings of peasants or collectors. The Sevillian tile, for its part, is characterized by geometric figures that will remind you of the Alhambra in Granada or the Mosque of Córdoba.

Character: Both styles drink from the influence that the Arab culture had in Spain, both designs with a lot of personality. But, the Valencian is a more discreet rustic tile that sometimes you can even combine with the smooth base so that the drawings go more unnoticed. For its part, the Moorish-type tiles are much more loaded, full of color and shapes, with a great personality that will not leave you indifferent.

Among the styles In current interior decoration, the tiles in this catalog would be the most similar to the hydraulic tiles that we find in all renovation and construction materials stores.
